"Vasgevang in Vastestof" (Captured in solid form)
7500mm X 12mm Fibre Optic cable

Vasgevang in Vastestof explored time-based-space.
The light sculpture, made from fiber optic cable, was illuminated by a pulsating light source. The pulse was set to the rhythm of very slow breathing; illuminating the space and then dimming to complete darkness. During the moments of darkness, viewers in the space were forced to be temporarily static. The focus of the light sculpture did not necessarily lie in the shape or aesthetics of the sculpture itself, but rather the way in which the space was activated and how the viewer moved within the space.

I used 12mm fiber optic cable as a drawing tool; the cable is a solid acrylic tube giving the illusion of glass carrying light. To aid me in forming a more organic shape (different from my other work) I used sketches from a life drawing class as reference. The shape or form of the drawing was however of secondary importance to what the drawing activated within the space.
